Low-E Coatings.

We know coatings. 40 years ago, Viracon started coating glass and today we influence the options, quality, performance and breadth of coatings for architectural glass in North America and beyond.
Low-E coatings are thin layers of metal applied to glass to improve solar performance. The specific coating needed for a given project is typically dictated by a required solar performance or desired appearance.
Viracon’s Product Configurator simplifies the process of selecting specific glass coating and color combinations.
Coatings_IGU Surfaces Zoom

Maximize Performance Surface #2.

In Viracon’s fabrication process, Low-E coatings are applied after heat treating, resulting in glass that is significantly flatter with less distortion than most architectural glass available on the market today.
To achieve the best performance, place the Low-E coating on surface #2 of an IGU, or surface #4 of an IGU with a laminated outboard.
Our broad selection of Low-E coatings is compatible with printed patterns on the same surface for outstanding solar performance and aesthetics, and can be applied to clear, low-iron, mid-iron, or tinted glass substrates.
An additional Low-E coating can be added for improved solar or thermal performance.

Selections Options.

Viracon offers a wide array of single, double, and triple silver Low-E coatings to meet the aesthetic and performance goals of the project.
Coatings, in combination with choices of substrates, laminates, and configurations define the final characteristics.

Coating FamiliesExplore.

Viracon coatings are grouped into families that have common characteristics.

Viracon Product Descriptions

Viracon glass products are comprised of a primary and detailed description.
  • The primary description includes an alphanumeric code for each coated glass product, indicating the overall unit thickness, exterior glass substrate, coating and unit configuration.
  • The detailed description identifies the glass ply thickness and type, coating and surface designation, and spacer/fill information.

Viracon’s enhanced coating color specification sets a new standard for reflected color uniformity – ensuring consistent color with less visible variation and greater architectural cohesiveness across IGUs.
ASTM C1376, the Standard Specification for Pyrolytic and Vacuum Deposition Coatings on Flat Glass, sets the limit of exterior reflected color non-uniformity for coated glass within a glazed unit and from one glazed unit to the next. Visually observable differences are possible within this specified range and can be quantified by calculating a Delta E value. The criteria defined in ASTM C1376 as the glazing industry standard is a Delta E reflected color variation of 4.0 or less.
When requested, Viracon can provide a premium product offering with a Delta E average of 2.0 or less for reflected color, which is half the industry standard.
