Components Interlayers.

Interlayers bond glass together under heat and pressure to form laminated glass.
Viracon offers a variety of interlayer materials that provide enhanced safety and security protection, as well as solar ultraviolet protection and acoustic sound reduction.

Material Types Types.

PVB is a common material for architectural glass interlayers and is available in a variety of thicknesses.
.030” is the minimal thickness required for safety glazing
.060” is a popular thickness for a variety of applications
.090” offers slightly better performance than .060” PVB
.060” Saflex™ Acoustic offers enhanced sound attenuation performance
Saflex™ Storm and Saflex™ HP enhanced PVB interlayers are offered by Viracon to provide greater impact resistance compared to standard PVB.
.077” Saflex™ Storm is a composite interlayer that provides the impact resistance of a PVB along with the tear resistance of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film.
.100” Saflex™ HP is ideal for hurricane and storm protection
Level E makeups include multi-layer interlayers constructed to meet ASTM E1996 Level-E for essential facilities
  • .154” Saflex™ Storm (Saflex VS) – two layers of .077” Saflex Storm
  • .177” Saflex HP-VS - .050” HP + .077” Saflex Storm + .050” HP
SentryGlas (SG) is an ionoplast interlayer that minimizes deflection due to its rigidity.
.060” SentryGlas
.090” SentryGlas
.180” SentryGlas meets ASTM E1996 Level E for essential facilities using two layers of .090” SG
SentryGlas Xtra® is an ionoplast interlayer that is available with print (digital or silkscreen) next to the interlayer.
.060” SentryGlas Xtra
.100” SentryGlas Xtra
The Vanceva™ Color PVB System is built on a basic palette of 16 colors that can be combined in up to four layers to produce custom-colored laminated glass.
Each Vanceva color combination is assigned a four-digit number, derived from the colors selected and order of the basic color layers.
Use the Vanceva Color Selector Tool from Eastman to generate a color for your project.
Once you generate a 4-digit code within the Color Selector Tool, contact Viracon to discuss product availability and additional design considerations to be evaluated.

Best For Applications.

Interlayers used in laminated glass are formulated to protect buildings and surroundings from severe winds and windborne debris impact in the event of a hurricane or storm.
Viracon offers interlayers certified to Miami-Dade County compliance by component NOAs (Notice of Acceptance) and qualify to ASTM E1996 test standard when installed into a suitable glazing system.
Small Missile - hurricane impact protection for elevations above 30 feet
Large Missile Level D - hurricane impact protection for ground level up to 30 feet
Large Missile Level E - hurricane impact protection for essential facilities
Tornado, Other Storm - additional storm protection for windborne debris and impact resistance can be evaluated, contact Viracon to discuss solutions

Interlayers used in laminated glass can offer occupant protection from:
    Forced Entry & Ballistics
Protection against physical attack and ballistic (bullet) attack
    Smash & Grab, Vandalism, Burglary
Protection again vandalism and burglary attack
    Bomb Blast
Protection against bomb blast (explosion) attack
    Electronic Eavesdropping Protection
Reduces transmission of radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic radiation
Laminated glass disseminates sound waves to improve sound transmission control (STC) for building occupants.
Upgrading a single monolithic lite of glass to a laminated glass configuration provides a significant improvement in STC. Using a Saflex Acoustic PVB interlayer further decreases sound transmission versus non-laminated glass, in the critical frequency range.
Viracon offers configurations that can further reduce sound transmission for interior spaces.
